Devon Grain

Storage and Processing

Situated adjacent to J28 of the M5 motorway, Devon Grain Store has excellent links with the many local feed mills in the area.

The store was built in 1983 harvest and had an original capacity of 8,500t. This increased in 1986, with the building of 4 silos to handle pulses.

Successive extensions have added extra storage and facilities to provide a current 20,000t store capacity based on 19 storage silos and 8 holding silos with a holding capacity ranging from 300 to 2,200t.

The store operates two Svegma continuous flow grain dryers - fired by mains gas and a cleaner that can pre-clean grain at 80t/hour. There is also a chilling unit on site that will quickly cool grain even when under high ambient temperatures.

The store runs a laboratory with TASCC accreditation. Every load is sampled on intake and out-loading and analysed for quality. At peak harvest time the store is open 7.00am – 7.00pm, seven days a week, but tipping can be arranged outside these hours providing greater flexibility for farmers and hauliers alike.

With three intakes, all capable of over 100t/hour, there is a rapid turnaround with minimal waiting times even during peak harvest periods.

Membership

There are two categories of members. Capital members who own the store and Leasing members who lease space annually. There is no minimum or maximum tonnage. Capital members enjoy a haulage subsidy to offset the costs of bringing grain to the store.
