Cannington Grain

Storage and Processing

Cannington Grain was established in 1977 and now has a 40,000t capacity. Storage is based on 25 silos with combined capacity of 30,000t and one flatbed store, which holds 10,000t.

The store runs three diesel grain dryers handling 25- 55t/hour and over harvest, peak daily delivery capacity is 2,500t/day. All grain is fully analysed on intake. Bushel weight, moisture, admixture, oil content, Hagberg, protein and nitrogen content are tested using the latest laboratory equipment, calibrated and continually checked as part of a testing 'ring'. Grain is then pre-cleaned prior to drying and storage. Grading and dressing to meet a particular contract specification takes place prior to out-loading. Grain temperatures are carefully monitored throughout storage and managed using ventilation systems.

Membership

Shares cost £1 per 50T of space purchased. Members are charged an annual service charge on each tonne delivered to store which, in the case of cereals, includes any drying charges up to 17.0%. A mileage allowance is paid for Members grain delivered to Store. Dedicated third party hauliers provide an excellent service, including giving harvest movement guarantees. There are flexible payment schemes which allow the farmer to tailor his cash-flow requirements.
